Field note · April 2026

Movement as ritual — matcha for the early court.

From the breath between yoga poses to the rhythm of a long rally: a guide to matcha across the slow sports.

A study in warm ochre — a softly worn surface of mustard and umber, painterly and still.

There is a version of matcha that lives outside the tea room — in the sixty seconds before a 6am yoga class, in the water bottle at the edge of a clay court. The ritual doesn't disappear in motion; it just changes shape.

What stays constant is the pacing: whisked slow, drunk slower, the calm settling in before the body takes over. We've started collecting the small rituals our community builds around movement — this is the first note.
