Field note · December 2025

The quiet hour — a morning matcha protocol.

Eighty strokes, eighty seconds, eighty millilitres of water at seventy degrees. Notes on building a daily ritual that doesn't ask for anything in return.

Vibrant matcha foam against the curve of a ceramic chawan.

The protocol is almost absurdly simple: two grams of matcha, seventy millilitres of water at seventy degrees, whisked in a W-motion for about eighty seconds. No app, no timer necessary once your hands learn it.

What it asks for is presence, not perfection — a few unclaimed minutes before the day has opinions about how you should spend them. We've heard from enough of you that this is the actual product. The matcha is just the excuse.
